The Academic Council of Bakoulev CCVS RAMS together with international fund «Generation» instituted these two premiums, named after outstanding surgeons of our time. The premiums are awarded for remarkable personal contribution to development of cardiovascular surgery and allied branches of science. The premium winner is presented with a gold medal featuring portrayal of Bakoulev or Bourakovsky, diploma and monetary reward.
The first Bakoulev Prize (1997) was presented to Bourakovsky (posthumously) for outstanding contribution to the development of cardiovascular surgery. Bourakovsky premiums for the remarkable contribution to organization and successful performance of operations in 1997 in Bourakovsky Institute of Cardiac Surgery went to Bakoulev Center’s employees G. V. Lobacheva and K. V. Shatalov.
The Premiums are announced and presented at the Center’s annual scientific sessions (mid May).

The Association was set up on the initiative of leading cardiovascular surgeons and registered in the Ministry of Justice. It holds annual All-Russia congresses of cardiovascular surgeons (late November), conferences of young scientists and a number of international conferences and symposia.
In 2000 the Association instituted its highest award – diploma and remuneration equivalent of 2.5 thousand dollars.
Alexander N. Bakoulev was the first to be honored (posthumously) with the Association’s highest award for institution and development of specialty «cardiovascular surgery».
